Plan your visit

Getting to Krasnaya Sloboda

It is easier to reach than you might think — a scenic drive north from Baku, then a single bridge across the river from Quba.

From Baku to the town

  1. Start in Baku

The capital, with its international airport, is the gateway to the north of the country.

  2. Drive to Quba

It is roughly 165 km north — about two and a half to three hours by car, bus or transfer along the Baku–Quba highway.

  3. Cross the bridge

From Quba, a short bridge over the Qudyalchay river leads straight into Krasnaya Sloboda.

How to travel

By car or transfer

The easiest way — drive or arrange a private transfer from Baku directly to Quba and the town.

By bus

Regular buses connect Baku's bus terminal to Quba; from there it is a short taxi or walk across the bridge.

What to see

  • The Six-Dome Synagogue
  • The Museum of Mountain Jews
  • Streets of balconied 19th-century houses
  • The bridge and views over the river
  • The bazaars and carpets of Quba, just across the water

When to come

Spring and autumn are mild and beautiful; summer is liveliest, when the diaspora returns and the town is at its fullest. Winters are quiet and crisp in the Caucasus foothills.
